A research on the possibilities of using marble waste in building metarials production

Turkey has an important position in the world on the marble reserves. Marble has a wide usage area due to its calcite mineral in its chemical structure. 50-70 %of waste is generated during the extraction and processing of marble. In this case, waste management and recycling are very important in reducing marble casualties. The aim of this study is to investigate the possibilities of using marble wastes as building materials. The thesis was carried out in two stages: literature review and field study. The study consists of five chapters. In the first part, general information about marble has been given, and the sections, the purpose and the limits of the study have been mentioned. General information about marble In the second section, general information on Turkey's marble reserves and the economy and the marble waste are given. In the third part, information about the material and method of the study is given. The material of the study consists of a questionnaire conducted at TÜYAP Bursa 4th International Block Marble Fair. In the method section of the study, the limits of the literature review are explained, and the questions related to the field survey are explained. In the fourth part of the study, numerical data obtained from the interviews conducted with the questionnaire conducted with 77 out of 107 participants based on participant volunteering at the 2018 TÜYAP Bursa 4th International Block Marble Fair were examined with the help of graphics. In the fifth part of the study, the data obtained from the interviews were interpreted with the help of graphs and suggestions were made. Due to the absence of a known marble waste processing facility, the company organizes technical trips to the countries where the marble wastes are evaluated, conducts on-site industrial symbiosis applications, conducts industrial symbiosis applications between marble firms and marble wastes. The study has been completed with suggestions such as providing the necessary incentives and support to the entrepreneurs who will establish a processing plant.
