Plants used in phytotherapy in pharmacies and phytotherapy inMersin

This study is being carried out to determine the herbal products sold for phytotherapy purposes in pharmacies and herbalists in Mersin province in 2023 Today. Despite the developments in modern medicine, traditional medicine (alternative medicine, supportive medicine, complementary medicine) practices still continue. Many patients prepare and use their own medicine with plants they buy from herbalists. Many of the plants are collected from nature and can also be obtained from different virtual environments such as herbalist, internet and media. Samples taken from herbalists were examined under a stereo microscope, identified and the parts of the plants used were determined. It has been determined that the samples sold are mostly used for rheumatism, diabetes, heart diseases, urinary system diseases, cancer treatment and for weight loss purposes. Mersin local people mostly prefer plants that are good for losing weight and colds in winter months. In this study, a study was conducted on the plants sold for phytotherapy purposes in herbalists and pharmacies in Mezitli, Merkez, Çamlıyayla, Erdemli and Tarsus districts and interviews were held with 41 resource persons. In the study with ethnobotanical characteristics, an average of 23 pharmacies and 18 herbalists were visited. As a result of the studies, it was determined that there were 105 taxa in 122 species, including 58 families.It was determined that the plant varieties sold in pharmacies and herbalists in the Center and Tarsus were similar. Among the most frequently preferred products in herbalists and pharmacies visited, weight loss, hair care oils, headaches, colds, flu, skin problems, digestive problems and cardiovascular diseases are offered first Among the indispensable phytotherapy plants for the cold winter months, linden, sage, turmeric, corn silk, ginger, marshmallow flower, mint and lemon are among the first. Plants are used for weight loss or stomach ailments during the hot summer months Especially in the summer months, cherry stem, mate leaves, chia seeds, hunger herb and rosemary are among the most sold plants.
