Message-oriented tafsir perspective: Ali Küçük's work Besâirü'l-Kur'ân

The Besâiru'l-Kur'ân commentary, written by Ali Küçük, is one of the best examples of message-oriented approaches in tafsir. Drawing upon classical tafsir sources, this commentary explains the Qur'an while being distinctively characterized by a preaching style. Although partial studies have been conducted on this work, no comprehensive evaluation has been found. This thesis aims to provide a detailed analysis of this tafsir and its distinctive preaching style of writing. In this context, the first part of the study evaluates the life and works of the author, Ali Küçük. Following this, the author's perception of the Qur'an is examined under various headings. The general features of the commentary, such as its title and the purpose behind its writing, the sources used in the tafsir and the approach to these sources, the classification of the surahs, the general information about the surahs and the contexts in which they were revealed, as well as the method of explaining the verses by grouping them, are discussed in terms of the tafsir's style. The commentary's narrational, rational, and social aspects are also analyzed. Additionally, this work addresses the differences between this tafsir and classical tafsir texts, the author's way of addressing the public, and his method of delivering the Qur'anic message to a wider audience. Furthermore, the tafsir tackles contemporary issues related to the religious and social needs of modern society in the 21st century. It offers significant insights into how the Qur'an should be understood in light of current circumstances. Ali Küçük's unique narrative style and methodology have contributed to the widespread acceptance of his tafsir among the public.
