Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to examine the difference between bladder fullness and blood pressure in two different sample groups; normotensive and hypertansive patients. Blood pressure was measured with a mercury sphygmomanometer. In the first sample (N=70), the blood pressure value of normotensive individuals was measured after urination and then 5 minutes of rest (empty bladder). After the initial measurement, individuals were given 1000 ml of oral water and asked to wait until they felt the urge to urinate (full bladder), at which point the blood pressure value was measured again and recorded. Subsequently, after emptying their bladders (post-voiding), the blood pressure value was measured again with an empty bladder after resting. In the second sample (N=80), the sample procedures as the first sample were repeated and recerded. According to the findings, after the first measurement, it was observed that bladder fullness increased systolic blood pressure, with an average increase of 7.85±0.002 mmHg in normotensive individuals and 7.81±0.002 mmHg in hypertensive individuals in the second measurement. In the third measurement after the second one, a decrease in systolic blood pressure was observed after emptying the bladder. This decrease was 8.12±0.07 mmHg in normotensive individuals and 6.99±0.06 mmHg in hypertensive andividuals. When the changes in diastolic blood pressure caused by bladder fullness were examined at each measurement time, it was observed that bladder fullness increased diastolic blood pressure in the second measurement after measuring with an empty bladder, with an increase of 5.97±0.11 mmHg in normotensive individuals and an average increase of 6.53±0.11 mmHg in hypertensive individuals. According to the third measurement after the second one, a decrease in diastolic blood pressure was observed after emptying the bladder. This decrease was 4.88±0.04 mmHg in normotensive individuals and 5.42±0.04 mmHg in hypertensive individuals. In conclusion, this study found that bladder fullness increased blood pressure, with an average increase of 5-10 mmHg in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in normotensive and hypertensive individuals.
