The opinions of teachers to reasons of decreasing interest to vocational high school department of fashion design technologies

This study has been prepared to determine the opinions of teachers about the reasons for the decrease in the interest and demand in the field of clothing production technology / fashion design technologies in vocational and technical education secondary-education institutions. In the study, textile-apparel was defined and the historical and developmental process of the textile/clothing sector in the world and in Turkey, as well as the current situation and economic data of the sector in the world were examined. In addition, by looking at the share of the sector in our country's economy, employment, export and import figures were transferred to the study. After the definition of vocational education in the study, vocational education in Turkey was examined in four parts as "ahilik, guild, post-Tanzimat, Republican period" and data about vocational education in the current situation were given. In the study, phenomenology (phenomenology) design was preferred among qualitative research designs, since people described their experiences about a situation, and semi-structured interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research techniques, was applied. In the analysis of the data, the descriptive analysis method was used. Working group; Fashion design / clothing production technology field teachers working in formal secondary education institutions affiliated to the General Directorate of Vocational Education of the Ministry of National Education were formed and 30 volunteer field teachers participated in the research. As the reasons for the decrease in the interest and demand to the field; negative prejudices of society and families towards the field and school, prejudices that the field is difficult and arduous, insufficient application of theoretical knowledge in the education process, insufficient education-industry cooperation, old and technologically backward machines, physical conditions and equipment of the school workshops, insufficient number of machines and lack of special machines , students with low academic success coming to vocational schools, the negative effect of business conditions after graduation , the sector not giving opportunities to young people, intense working conditions and insufficient wages were stated by the participants.
