Abstract (EN)

Through photography as a medium, an abandoned space can be transformed into a singular object of art. Proceeding from the traces of an abandoned space, examples of alternative exhibitions and spaces, including global and Turkish contemporary art, were examined in this thesis. In this context, using photography as a tool in abandoned spaces, space and photography were studied together as a whole transformed into a single art object. By looking conceptually at an internal space from an outside position, artistic intervention can protect a space semantically. The purpose of this study is to bring the mental maps formed independently of an abandoned space together with people who have a connection to the space. From a sociological point of view, by creating an impact, it supports the arts through raising social awareness. As a medium, photography uses sociocultural patterns to perpetuate and develop cultural values. Most importantly, photography can sustain art through social impact. Following French photographer JR, one of the most important artists working in this area, this thesis will interpret the transformation of alternative exhibition spaces in contemporary art as objects of art in their own right.
