Abstract (EN)

The constructions with cultural, social and historical importance that existed in the past should be sustainable, as they are an indicator of national identity, culture and social structure. Over time, people's needs and comfort conditions began to change, and in this direction, the places lost their function, remained idle or were demolished. There can be many reasons such as social, cultural, environmental and economic for the buildings to lose their original functions. The comfort conditions of people, their needs and the new functions brought by today, and re-functioning of the buildings, or the adaptive reuse of them in another saying, by attributing them to the designated places for adaptation to the era, ensures the sustainability of these buildings. Within the framework of the concept of re-functioning, most of the studies done so far have been conducted for being re-functionalized to be transferred to the future, in association with the concepts of Cultural Heritage, Industrial Heritage and Protection. However, today, within the framework of sustainability, it is necessary to focus on the continuation of their use by functioning them as they exist, but not on the demolition and rebuilding of all buildings. In order to transfer the existing structure to the future, adapt it to the future and ensure the sustainability, it should be addressed with the issues, climate change and resilience. The studies conducted on the related concepts and the ways of handling the subject in these studies are presented in the literature review section of this thesis.Within the framework of this thesis, instead of transferring the constructions that existed in the past to the present, ways of transforming all existing structures by adapting them to the conditions of the future are investigated. Climate change has great effects on the transfer of an existing construction to the future, as well as on nature and people. The change in the temperature factor in the future determines the concentration in heating and cooling needs in buildings. In this context, future scenarios against climate change are created in order to see the attitudes of the buildings against climate change. By examining the effects of the created future scenarios on the constructions, design suggestions will be made specific to the structures. As a result, within the scope of the thesis, the transfer and adaptation of an existing construction to the future have been discussed with the issue of climate change. In this study, a method from general to specific is followed. The defined concepts are gathered under a single concept. In order to create a climate future scenario, scenarios for the years 2050 and 2080 were created by taking into account the climate data of Ankara. Design proposals will be made, depending on the future scenarios created. All the information obtained will be evaluated based on a sample construction.
