Abstract (EN)
The Flood event is a subject that has attracted the attention of all humanity. In particular, the fact that the narratives in the holy books of divine religions and the narratives in the cuneiform works found in archaeological studies largely overlapped increased the interest in this event even more. The Flood event has been part of mythological epics in many parts of the world, mainly in Mesopotamian civilizations. The relevant epics differ about where the flood occurred, where the ship was placed, in what period it happened, and whether it was universal or local. Nonetheless, the main theme in them and the way the flood occurred generally overlap with each other. The Flood event is also described as Noah's Flood in the Bible and the Qur'an, which are the holy books of divine religions. In our study, we tried to reveal the connection between the Flood event known as an epic story in Mesopotamian civilizations, and the Flood event known as Noah's Flood in divine religions. In this regard, we have determined the outline of the Flood event by examining the Mesopotamian region geographically, historically and socioculturally, especially by examining the mythological narratives and belief forms that emerged in the Mesopotamian region. By doing this, we tried to determine the relationship between mythologies and beliefs. In addition, we tried to determine the overlapping aspects of and the differences between the Flood event in Mesopotamian civilizations and Noah's Flood in the divine books in terms of their sources. Keywords: Archaeology, Mythology, Mesopotamia, Divine Religions, Flood.
