Abstract (EN)
Aim: To investigate whether brain volume change in migraine may be related to the course of the disease and whether it can be used as a differential diagnostic tool in terms of migraine status and progression. And to investigate the relationship between vitamin D and brain volume in migraine patients. Material and Method: This study was conducted prospectively and 130 people (80 patients aged 18-70 years with migraine and 50 people without migraine) who were admitted to the Neurology outpatient clinic participated in the study. Brain MRI with T1-weighted 3D MP-RAGE sequence and biochemical blood tests were requested from these individuals. Images were uploaded to the web-based MRICloud program. Data were statistically analyzed with SPSS program. Results: Hemispheres, cerebellum, cerebral cortex, cerebral nucleus, white matter, sulcus, lobes, white and gray matter in the cerebellum, brain stem, mesencephalon, pons, medulla, basal ganglia, amygdala, caudate nucleus, globus pallidus, thalamus, A significant difference was found between the groups in terms of mean volume measurement values in the hypothalamus, nucleus accumbens, red nucleus, substantia nigra, left mammillary nucleus, right cingulate, left limbic and some of the gyrus (p<0.05). In addition, a strong positive and significant correlation was found between vitamin D and right-left hemisphere, right-left cerebral cortex and cerebellum (p<0.05). In the correlation analysis between Midas and right-left hemisphere, right-left cerebral cortex and cerebellum, a strong negative and significant relationship was found (p<0.05). Conclusion: We concluded that migraine affects the volume in many parts of the brain; there is a relationship between vitamin D levels and brain volumes; and brain volume decreases as the number of painful days increases with Midas.
