Abstract (EN)

In this doctoral thesis study; In order to benefit from their contribution to energy consumption, it is aimed to develop a new cement-based composite that improves the negative effects of Phase Change Materials (PCM), which are used in thermal energy storage, on the mechanical properties of concrete in applications where they are used in concrete in the structure. For this purpose, cement-based composite samples containing different amounts of microencapsulated PCM (mPCM) were produced and compressive strength, flexural strength and axial tensile strength values were determined. After determining the decrease in mechanical properties, the experiments were repeated by adding the same amount of nanographeneoxide (NGO) to each mixture in order to prevent this decrease. Additionally, the specific heat capacity and thermal conductivity of the samples were determined. In addition, within the scope of the thesis, SEM and EDS analyses, concrete petrography, porosity determination with mercury porosimetry test, and fractal analysis were carried out to determine the microstructure of the samples. Environmental impact and cost evaluations of the produced composite materials were also made. As a result, it was determined that NGOs improved the mechanical and thermal properties of cement-based composites containing mPCM. Environmental impact assessment determined that although the use of PCMs increases CO2 emissions from production, the addition of NGOs will make a positive contribution to the life cycle, as CO2 emissions from cement will decrease. These results show that this new cement-based composite material reinforced with NGOs has great potential for environmentally friendly buildings with the integration of energy savings and long-term durability in structures.
