Abstract (EN)
SUMMARY Architect and His Building: The Nature of the Subject and Object Interactions Personal identity, personality and character make-up human nature in an interactive manner. The purpose of this study is to investigate as to how these concepts crystallize in the architect's professional choices. One of the most important criterion in architecture is the reconciliation of an architectural work with the society's ideals. The other criterion that contradicts with that is reflecting of the architect's own personal preferences in his works. This goal brings to the fore properties like originality as a long standing criterion in architecture and puts in a privileged pastion. But each architect realizes his own ideal in an act of optimization between himself and his work. So, building character carries properties from the architect's character as human-architect being. This is the basic hypothesis of this thesis. This research is planned for examining and discussing this identically of personal traits with building properties. In the introduction while expounding on the definitions of character, personality and personal identity, main theories and concepts transpiring in mis field are discussed. In the first chapter creative personality profile that improves by the creative thought is studied and architectural identity and its classifications are rendered. In the second chapter, in order to determine the architect-character connections, four buildings from eight architects, so thirty two buildings altogether are and tested by a semantic differential guestionnaire which contains twelve adjectives. The results are shown in tables. The architects who are chosen for this study are as follow, 1. Alvaro SKA 2. Mario BOTTA 3. Daniel LIBESKIND 4. Rem KOOLHAAS 5. Frank O. GEHRY 6. Turgut CANSE VER 7. Doğan TEKELİ & Sami SİSA 8. Behruz ÇÎNİCÎ The results of the inquiry that have been administered to thirty people are put to statistical tests in order to understand the evaluations of the facade and its coherence with the architect's personality traits.
