Abstract (EN)

In this study, corner points, which are the meeting points of people, are seen as the most important blocks of the city, and it is aimed to develop a method on the importance, meaning and reading of corner buildings. For this purpose, the semantic reading of corner buildings is based on the categorization and evaluation of concepts obtained through the perception of the users. In this study, aiming to obtain the meanings of corner buildings by the users, the "Multiple Sorting Task", which allows the users to freely evaluate the visual effects of the corner buildings has been applied. The obtained data were processed with SPSS using multidimensional scaling analysis. Accordingly, categorization schemes showing close meanings to each other with the PROXSCAL analysis, the grouping of corner buildings by the participants with related concepts using INDSCAL analysis, and the order of appealing corner buildings using a Likert Scale were obtained. In conclusion, as a result of the analysis, it is revealed that the meanings appointed to the corner buildings by the users support the literature, however using the multiple sorting task enabled the participants to freely express their views which resulted in the emergence of diverse definitions, and that being in the corner and definition of the corner were perceived differently by architects and non-architects.
