Bagdat Governorship of Mithat Paşa and Zevra Newspaper (According to the 49th-100th issue of Zevrâ Newspaper)

Midhat Pasha is one of the prominent statesmen of the 19th century. It is seen that there is a lot of information about the period of grand viziership in the researches. But the successes he showed during his governorship of Danube and Baghdad also played a role in gaining this importance and shining his future. For this reason, in this study, it has been tried to reveal the contributions of Mithat Pasha based on the studies he made during the governorship of Baghdad. The 49-100th anniversary of the newspaper Zevra. As a result of the examination of the numbers, it was understood that Midhat Pasha fit many activities in the Baghdad Governorship period, which he held for a short time between 1869-1872. n this context, the bed of the Euphrates River was cleaned, new ferries were purchased and river transportation was revived. This activity, which is seen as regional, has generally been instrumental in the Ottoman Empire breaking the British rule in river transportation. By putting an end to the conflicts between the tribes in the region, security was ensured, and regular military units were provided to the Sixth Army with the application of the method of recruiting by drawing lots. In addition, despite the fact that there was no increase in tax rates by fighting against tax-paying regions, more taxes were collected than ever before during the Mithat Pasha period. Real estate and properties were dealt with in the title deed, and it was aimed to revitalize agriculture by distributing miri (state) land to the public. In addition, with the support of the notables of the region, a Gureba Hospital and a Rüşdiye School (Secondary School) were built in Baghdad. The fact that Midhat Pasha strengthened the authority of the Ottoman Empire in the region in a short period of time reveals the importance of the study. In this context, the aim of the study is the 49-100th anniversary of the Zevra Newspaper, the aim of this study is to shed light on Mithad Pasha's governorship period and the contribution of the activities carried out in this period by examining the numbers.
