Abstract (EN)

In visual based information systems, such as geographic information systems and mutimedia information systems processing visual elements, data is represented through polygons corresponding to the boundaries of the form. Polygons have a large number of edges and vertices because of detailed shape of the objects. From this point of view, the studies have been carried out to represent the polygon with less edge and vertices, preserving critical shape of original one. These studies are called polygon approximation or polygon simplification. The demand to this research method based on the various difficulties faced in processing polygons with large number of vertices and edges. As well as being more noise in the image prossesing and more memory and disk requirements are the reasons led to the use of polygon simplification method. This thesis study aimed at using the kinematics-based method and its implemetation on an image captured by a mobile device camera for polygon simplification. The method is based on calculating the speed and acceleration values of extreme points associated with the polygon centroid and their simplification according to these values. The study was carried out by implementing the kinematics-based metod on the images captured by the camera and on the mobile device gallery images, which had been transformed into polygon shape with a large number of vertices.
