Abstract (EN)

Phenol and 4-chlorophenol are toxic to other organisms in aqueous media even at very low concentrations. This study deals with the removal of phenol and 4-chlorophenol from the aqueous media in a batch system by the use of modified alklylammonium nanobentonite. The equilibrium time of the adsorption of phenol and 4-chlorophenol, the effect of the initial concentration upon the adsorption rate, the effect of the pH and the possibility of regeneration have been examined. Apart from those, the possibility of regenerating the used nanobentonite with the use of 30 % (v/v) ethanol solution. The adsorption studies carried out at 25oC, 35oC and 45oC temperatures. Modified alklylammonium nano-bentonite examined by the use of FTIR, SEM, EDX, XRD, XRF, KDK and DTA-TGA and chemical analysis techniques before and after the adsorption process. Also the effect of the initial phenol and 4-chlorophenol concentration on the removal efficiency and the related adsorption isotherms Langmuir and Freundlich was investigated. The adsorption was observed to take place according to the Freundlich isotherm. Key words: Bentonite, Modification, Adsorption, Phenols, Waste water
