The investigation of breaking strength in monofilament gillnets

The aim of this study was to determine breaking strength of monofilament gillnets in Çemişgezek Region of Keban Dam Lake between March 2008 ? February 2009.In the region during the study 120 samples were taken from Fatmalı, Muratçık and Yemişdere. The samples were taken from monofilament gillnets which used one year, two years, and two catching seasons let in the sun.In this study no significant differences was detected especially material thickness (between 0.26 mm and 0.29 mm) in terms of breaking strength (p> 0.05). However, significant differences was observed between one year and two years in terms of breaking strength (p <0.05).Key Words: Keban Dam Lake, Breaking Strength, PA, Monofilament, Gillnet
