The effects of motivation tools on work satisfaction: An approach at Kutahya Prison

This study aims to investigate the sources that are influential in jobsatisfaction of the convicts and the detainees working in prisoner workhouses. Thefact that in Turkey there has not been any survey conducted about this issue is themain leading factor of this study.The study consists of three parts. In the first part, the concept ofmotivation, its relationship with similar concepts, motivation theories andmotivation-encouraging tools are examined. In the second part, the concept of jobsatisfaction, its theories, factors that influence the job satisfaction and the resultsof job satisfaction are explained. In the last part, there is an application whichaims to measure the influence of various demographic factors and motivation-encouraging tools-within the frame of the model-on the job satisfaction of theworkers. The questionnaire was conducted among the convicts and detaineesworking in Kutahya Prison Workhouse. To determine the influence of motivation-encouraging tools on job satisfaction, correlation analysis is used and to determinethe influence of demographic variables on job satisfaction, t-test analysis isapplied. The results of correlation analysis reveal that motivation-encouragingtools increase job satisfaction. Yet, through t-test analysis, it becomes apparentthat demographic variables do not influence job satisfaction. When given theopportunity to work, human being-even when his freedom is restrained-canturn into a social being and reach the psychological level of free individuals, andcan experience the sources of satisfaction and dissatisfaction at the same level withfree individuals.Key Words : motivation, needs, job satisfaction, employee, theory
