Research of engine oil filters, tests and change periods

With each passing day, both in Turkey and in the world, millions of vehicles enter into services and those vehicles need periodic maintenance after travel at a rate advised by vehicle manufacturers. During periodic maintenance, vehicles are threated according to manufacturer of the vehicle and some instruments on engine are renewed to be conjectured that service life of renewed instrument is over.During periodic maintenance, one of the renewed instruments is engine oil filter which is in charge of making lubricating oil clean. Renewed engine oil filters subjected to none of performance test are chucked out together with domestic waste in Turkey. This research is generally referred to international studies about oil filters published in recent years, engine lubrication systems in terms of oil filter connection, types of engine oil filters and tests of oil filters. Moreover, used engine oil filters collected from authorized repair and maintenance service stations are subjected to pressure drop ? flow characteristic tests and results are shown proccessed into graphics. Due to the fact that used oil filters removed from vehicles contain some used lubricating oil, economic influence and enviromental impact of used engine oil filter is referred making allowance for annual light duty motor vehicle sales in Turkey.As a result of tests, calculations and assumptions, it has been come to conclusion that used engine oil filters collected from authorized repair and maintenance service stations are renewed before their service life is over, number of engine oil filters will be renewed by light duty motor vehicles saled in last five years in Turkey will approximately reach to ten million.Keywords: Engine oil filters, types of engine oil filters, tests of oil filters
