A research on the past, present and future of aquaculture in Muğla

Muğla province has an important place in activities for aquaculture products in Turkey in terms of the technology used, economic types of fish and natural water resources. Besides, Muğla Province has rich water resources on the longest coastline of Turkey that is 1489 km. Aquaculture sector in Muğla Province includes sea bream, sea bass and trout culture with high economic value with net cage in the sea, earthen pond, net cage in dam lakes and concrete pond. These cultured water products are exported to more than 30 countries in the world, particularly in Europe. In this study, it is aimed to reveal past and present situation of aquaculture in Muğla province and future plans as well as the possible problems experienced within the scope of the applications and technologies used by the operating companies in order to make maximum use of the available natural water resources in Muğla Province and to protect sustainability. For this purpose, one-to-one surveys were conducted with 86 businesses within the scope of this study. As a result, it is predicted in the study that alternative fishery products will be produced in the province of Muğla in the future in addition to the culture of fish with high economic value and that this will provide contribution to the Turkish economy every day.
