Abstract (EN)

Armistice Era Martial Courts began to operate by judging the leading Members of theUnion and Progress in the era?s complex and depressed political atmosphere. The Members ofthe Union and Progress who were judged in their absence or presence had been sentenced tosolitary confinements including execution. Especially one of the execution penalties whichhad deep impact is worth to be mentioned. As a result of death sentence of Mr. Kemal whoserved as the governor of Bogazlıyan town and the governor representative of Yozgad city bythe martial court, the community showed great reaction during the execution and the funeraland this event had been the origin of mass protests all over the country; mainly in Istanbul andwas effective in strengtening the spirit of national resistance. In this period it was not only judging the Members of the Union and Progress. SultanVahdettin and especially the administration of Damat Ferit Pasha; stood against the defendentjurists whom they assumed as the Members of the Union and Progress and starting fromMustafa Kemal Pasha they judged the leaders of national movement in their absence withthese false courts and sentenced them to death penalties. In this era the effect of English and Armenians who claimed so called Armeniangenoside was huge. The unfair verdicts by the martial courts which are even today shown asthe proof of genoside by the Armenians are the result of an occupied country which could notdefend itself and saw the mandate of the occupiers as salvation. So it can be understood thatthe verdicts of the courts are not credible and the claims of Armenians are baseless.
