Abstract (EN)

SUMMARY Naproksen sodium is a nonsteroidal drug with potent analgesic, antiinflammatory and antipyretic activity and is absorbed rapidly following oral or rectal administration. It is a derivative of phenyl propionic acid. The plasma half life of Nap-Na is 13-14 hours and used once or twice a day at doses of 275-550 mg. The purpose of this study was to prepare the matrix tablets of Nap-Na using different concentrations and examing the effect of different polymers on the dissolution rates of Nap-Na. Matrix tablets of Nap-Na were prepared by direct compression and wet granulation techniques. For the quality control of tablets prepared according to 16 formulations, weight deviation, hardness, friability, diameter high ratio, content uniformity of the active substance and in vitro dissolution tests were performed. HPMC, HPC, CMC-Na and Eudragit-IQO were used as polymer. Spectro photometric method was used for Nap-Na assay and basket method was preferred for the in vitro dissolution rate studies. Dissolution profile of each tablet was plotted and evaluated kinetically. As a result; dissolution rate of F6, F7 and F10 formulations of Nap-Na, which contain 20%, 30% CMC-Na and 30% HPC was found to be as the best sustained release system. Also, it is experimentaly observed that, percentage and kind of polymer effects the dissolution rate, and HPC is the most appropriate polymer used in studies. Key words; Naproxen sodium, Matrix tablets IV
