Investigation of the relationship between narsistic personal properties and attachment styles: Example of Bingöl University

The research is conducted to investigate the relationship between narcissistic personality traits and attachment styles in university students according to demographic characteristics (gender, age, number of siblings, birth order and family income). The sample is selected by eligible / easy 198 female students and 197 male students between the ages of 18-26 who are studying at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Social Services and Philosophy in the Bingöl University. In order to determine the demographic characteristics of the students "Personal Information Form", in order to determine the narcissistic personality traits Raskin and Hall's (1979) "Narcissistic Personality Inventory" and in order to determine the attachment styles of the students Bartholomew and Griffin's "Relationship Scales Questionnaire" are used. The data obtained from the scales is analysed by SPSS 22 statistical program. In order to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants percentage and frequency of the analysis; in order to determine the relationship between demographic data and dependent and independent variables, Mann Whitney U Tests and Kruskal Wallis Tests; in order to determine the relationship between narcissistic personality traits and attachment styles spearman correlation analysis and; in order to determine the predictive effect of demographic variables and narcissistic personality traits on attachment styles Multiple Regression (Linear Regression) analysis are applied. As a result of the statistical analysis, it is found and concluded that there is a negative attachment between fearful attachment style and one of the narcissistic personality traits; a positive relationship between fearful attachment and obsessive attachment style; a negative correlation between secure attachment style and claim. It is observed that according to demographic variables, gender, fearful attachment style scores; according to age, indifferent attachment style scores; and according to the number of siblings, unregistered attachment style and exploitation scores are differentiated. It is seen that family 's income, gender, and assertion variable is 13% of the total variance; the obsessive attachment style of family birth order and claim variable is 5.7% of the total variance; the rate of family income, gender, claims, and exhibitionism and fearful attachment style of exhibitionism variable is 8.9% of the total variance; the variables of birth order and sibling number in the family explained 4.3% of the total variance of the indifferent attachment style.
