Cervical cancer knowledge and awareness of women in Najaf

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the knowledge level of women in Najaf about cervical cancer and screening. The study was conducted with 300 volunteer women who applied to Najaf Al-Zahra Training Hospital gynecology service, oncology center and family planning units and A-Forat Al-Awsat oncology center between March 2022 and September 2022 and met the inclusion criteria of the study. In the collection of data, a structured personal information form prepared by the researchers based on previous studies and an information form for cervical cancer and screening were used. In the analysis of the data, numbers, percentage distributions, mean and standard deviation tests were used. In addition, one-way Anova test and t test for independent groups were used. Of the women participating in the research, 48.3% of the women are between the ages of 18-29, 74% are single, 56.7% have a university or higher education level, 56.3% have an extended family and 86.7% have an extended family. It was determined that he had a middle income status. The mean total score of the women from the knowledge level form about cervical cancer and screening is 1.55±0.48. It was determined that the difference between the groups was statistically significant in terms of the mean total score of the women's education level, family type, and knowledge level about cervical cancer and screening (p<0.05). In addition, a statistically significant difference was found between the women's previous gynecological infection status and their thoughts about gynecological examination, among the total mean scores of the level of knowledge about cervical cancer and screening (p<0.05). It has been determined that the level of knowledge about cervical cancer of women who have a university or higher education level, have a broken family structure, have had a gynecological infection before and go to regular gynecological examinations is higher than the others.
