Abstract (EN)

TV series and film platforms play an active role in the film industry of today's world. New media offers a different experience from the viewing experience of traditional media viewers. The cultural industry in Netflix has an impact on the change in viewing habits. Media service provider and production company platforms commodify culture. According to the Frankfurt School, culture is devalued and uniformised by turning it into a means of entertainment. Digital platforms place the individual in a passive position. Individuals trapped in this position are unable to question the quality of the content and purchase it directly. Culture disappears and becomes a tool. The study is conducted to find an answer to the question "Does Netflix, a digital platform, create a space of freedom for the viewer?". Freedom discussion is carried out through the Netflix sample. The study aims to obtain data using semi-structured interview method. The viewing habits of Netflix viewers and their perspectives on the platform are discussed. The role of algorithms in content preference is analysed. According to the answers obtained from the interviewees, it was concluded that users feel free within the Netflix platform and that algorithms have no effect on content preference.
