Evaluation of MUF1, NF-κB and hba1c values in obese individuals and the levels of non-obese individuals

Abstract (EN)
Obesity is one of the most popular health problems, causing increased death rates and heavier healthcare costs. Mucin1 (MUC1) is a member of the transmembrane mucin family. Nuclear Factor Kappa β (NF-κB), on the other hand, is the main regulator of immune and inflammatory responses. The cytosolic tails of transmembrane mucins activate the inflammatory pathways of NF-κB. In case of inflammation due to obesity, an increase in NF-κβ and a corresponding increase in MUC1 can be expected. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) provides information on the glycemic history of the previous 120 days, which is the mean erythrocyte lifespan. An increase in HbA1c is expected in obese individuals without diabetes. Body Mass Index (BMI), one of the most commonly used methods for diagnosing obesity, is obtained by dividing the square of the height in meters by weight. In our study, the group between the ages of 18-65, called the obese group, consisted of in 13 men and 27 women. Our control group consists of 14 men and 26 women between the ages of 18-65. It was selected from individuals without diabetes in both groups. Our obese patient group was defined as individuals with BMI >30 kg/m2, waist circumference >94 cm in men and >80 cm in women (n=40), and our group, defined as the control group, with BMI<25 kg/m2, waist circumference <94 cm in men was performed among individuals (n=40) with <80 cm in women. MUC1, NF-κB and HbA1c values were compared between the obese and control groups. Biochemistry and genetic analyses were performed for these parameters. In addition, glucose, alanine amino transferase (ALT), aspartate amino transferase (AST), low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol parameters were analyzed in individuals. As a result of our study, according to biochemistry and genetic analyses, MUC1, NF-κB and HbA1c were found to be significantly higher in obese individuals than in non-obese individuals. (p<0.05). In Pairwise Correlation Tests, a significant difference was found between MUC1 and BMI and waist circumference, and thanks to this result, the relationship between MUC1 and obesity was revealed. No significant difference was found in glucose, ALT, AST, LDL cholesterol values.
