Abstract (EN)

Objective: It is aimed to determine social anxiety level among obese people and factors that influence social anxiety. Material and Method: The research staff consist of the patients who consult to Akhisar State Hospital Diet Polyclinic, patients diagnosed with obesity, 100 consecutive patients whose ages are older than 18. Sociodemographic İnformation Form, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale are used as data collection tools. Findings: The rate of incidence of acute social anxiety on obese people who participate into the research is found %47. Rates of incidence of depression and anxiety disorder, which are determined meaningful correlations with social anxiety, are found %28 and %22 respectively. Also it is found that BMI has a meaningful correlation with education level and social anxiety Results: It is stated that social anxiety often occurs on obese people, and also depression, anxiety disorder and increasing of BMI level have an additive effect on social anxiety. It is found that the intensity of social anxiety among obese people who graduate from primary school and high school is higher than university graduate.
