Abstract (EN)
Obesity is still a common and frequently disease seen in worldwide, it is also a public health problem because of its related complications ( such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, hypertension etc.). It?s shown that oxidant stress markers increase and antioxidant enzymes decrease in obese people.In this study, we have investigated the glucose tolerance, metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, total oxidant status (TOS) and total antoxidant status (TAS) in obese patients. Obese 94 patients body mass index over 30 kg/m2 who admitted to Gaziantep University Medical Faculty Endocrinology and Metabolism Division between April 2010 and July 2010, having diabetes mellitus (DM) (12 cases) and made firm normal glucose tolerance (50 cases), impaired fasting glucose or impaired glucose tolerance (17 cases) and newly diagnosed DM (15 cases) were included in the study. The Body mass index, waist/hip rate and HOMA-IR values of these cases were calculated and the patients were divided into groups according to metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, glucose tolerance. The relations of TOS and TAS levels with these groups and the correlation between each other were evaluated. There was not a significant relation between groups according to metabolic syndrome, insulin resistance, glucose tolerance, obesity degree and TOS, TAS levels (p>0.05).In the present study, it detected that there is no significant variance oxidant stress between obesity degree and obese people whether have metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. So it can expressed that the variance of oxidant stress related with being obese or not. Compare oxidative stress in normal body weight populations will be appropriate. It's necessary that investigation the effect of weight loss in obese group on oxidative stress planned.
