Abstract (EN)

In our study, we evaluate effects of apneas on levels of pro-BNP and cardiac markers, predictors of cardiac strain, in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients with normal cardiac functions and to determine if there is any difference after applying CPAP therapy. Study was conducted prospectively in Sleep Disorders Center of Gaziantep University Department of Pulmonary Medicine. Thirty patients are included. In patients, levels of pro-BNP and cardiac markers were evaluated prior to and after CPAP therapy. Twenty five patients had normal (83.3%) while five of them (16.7%) revealed high pro-BNP values. We did not detect significant difference between severity of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome and pro-BNP levels (p=0.534). Mean Troponin-I levels on admission and after CPAP therapy were 0.007±0.036 and 0.003±0.018 respectively (p=0.326). Mean AST value was 16.9±5.50 while it was detected as 19.4±12.6 after CPAP therapy (p=0.229). Initial mean creatin kinase value was detected as 100.10±56.63 and it was found as 110.20±55.95 after CPAP (p=0.363). Mean CK-MB was 1.62±1.16 and detected as 1.81±1.16 after CPAP therapy (p=0.224).Levels of pro-BNP and cardiac markers (CK, CK-MB, Troponin-I, AST) were within normal limits prior to CPAP therapy and we did not detect significant difference in these parameters after CPAP therapy. Serum proBNP, CK, CK-MB, Troponin-I, AST levels are not enough to reveal myocardial damage related to nocturnal hypoxia.Key words: OSAS, proBNP, CK-MB, Troponin I, CPAP.
