Abstract (EN)

II SUMMARY PhD Thesis FINE STRUCTURE OF SALIVARY GLAND OF OEDALEUS DECORUS. (GERMAR) (ORTHOPTERA: ACRIDIDAE) Menderes SUÎÇMEZ Fırat Universty Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science Department of Biology 1993, Page: 37 The salivary glands of Oedaleus decorus (Germar) are of racemose form. There are clusters of acini on both sides of the thorax in the prothorax, mesothorax and metathorax. The salivary acinus of O. decorus consists of three types of cellsi.e. zymogen cells, parietal cells and duct cells. Zymogen cells are homologous with the "Central cells and Secretory cells". These ceils occupy the central region of the acini. Parietal cells are homologous with the "Peripheral cells" and occur in the peripheral areas of the acini. Zymogen cells are distinguished from parietal cells and duct cells by the presence of numerous secretory granules and well-developed endoplasmic reticulum. The apical plasma membranes are lined with the microvilli. Each of parietal cells contains an intracellular ductule lined with numerous microvilli. There are many mitochondria within the cytoplasm. Under the electron microscope each duct cell seem is to be highly specialized. The basal membrane of the cell is greatly infolded, the folds reaching to one third or half the way across the cell. There are many mitochondria between infoldings. KEY VQRDS Salivary Glands, Fine Structure, Oedaleus decorus (GERMAR).
