Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between pre-service teachers' substance addictions and their value orientations according to Schwartz's value classification. In the study, it was also examined how the pre-service teachers' substance addictions and value orientations were and whether these two phenomena differed significantly according to gender, age, and department variables. The research was carried out in the relational survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. The universe of the research consists of teacher candidates who continue their education at Sakarya University Faculty of Education in the 2019 - 2020 academic year. From the universe of the research, 281 teacher candidates who continue their education in the fourth grade at Sakarya University Faculty of Education in the 2019-2020 academic year were selected by random sampling method. In the study, data were collected with a personal information form prepared by the researcher, which includes information about the demographic information and substance addictions of the participants. The value orientations of teacher candidates were collected through the 'Portrait Values Questionnaire'. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean and standard deviation analyzes were conducted in order to determine the status of teacher candidates' substance addictions and value orientations. Chi-square test was conducted to determine the differentiation status of pre-service teachers' substance addictions according to gender, age and department variables. T-test was used to determine the differentiation status of teacher candidates' value orientations according to gender, age and department variables. As a result of the research, it was seen that 41.6% of the teacher candidates participating in the research had at least one substance addiction. It was determined that male teacher candidates had more addictions to cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol and gambling than female teacher candidates, and this difference was significant in terms of gender. When the cigarette and tobacco addictions of teacher candidates are examined; It was concluded that cigarette and tobacco use was higher in pre-service teachers in the 18-23 age group than in the pre-service teachers in the 24+ age group, and this situation was significant. It has been determined that the most important value of the teacher candidates is universalism, while the least important value is power. It was observed that female teacher candidates attach more importance to hedonism, universalism and security values than male teacher candidates. It has been determined that pre-service teachers aged 18-23 give more importance to the value of hedonism than pre-service teachers aged 24 and over. It has been determined that pre-service teachers aged 24 and above attach more importance to the value of universalism than pre-service teachers aged 18-23. It was determined that the pre-service teachers who do not smoke and do not use tobacco attribute the most importance to four value types: hedonism, tradition, conformity and security. It has been determined that pre-service teachers who are not drug addicts give the most importance to three value types as power, success and hedonism, and they attach the least importance to the value of universalism.
