A comparative study on self-efficacy beliefs of student teachers on different representations: A study on development of a scale

Technological developments that accelerate changes in daily life in various ways increase the diversity of methods that exist in the presentation of information. Because of the diversity of information presentation meaningful learning has increased, different ways of presentation have been incorporated into teaching more. These cases, which are frequently used in learning environments and are called different representations, have also affected teachers closely. Measuring the sufficiency and self-confidence of teachers about these situations, and increasing the quality of teaching according to the results of these measurements, affects the success of the student positively. The aim of this thesis is to examine the science teachers' self-efficacy beliefs about different representations and compare them with the results of the teacher candidates in other programs. 'The Self-Efficacy Beliefs Scale for Different Representations' was developed to fulfill this purpose and the research was carried out from this scale. The study was conducted with 525 student teachers in third and fourth grades in a university in the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey. The value of KMO (Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin) indicating the suitability of the data obtained from the sample group to factor analysis was found as 0.884. As a result of the factor analysis, it was seen that the 18-item measuring instrument had 3 sub-dimensions. The Cronbach Alpha reliability coefficients of these 3 factors were found to be 0.837, 0.814 and 0.788, respectively, and the reliability coefficient of the whole scale was calculated as 0.866. Analysis results were interpreted on different variables and it was determined that some factors differed significantly in some variables. It has been suggested that teacher candidates who have been developed to measure the scale of self-efficacy beliefs about different representations is an effective scale and have been proposed to be used in researches to be carried out.
