Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the arguments produced by pre-service secondary mathematics teachers during the model elicting activities according to the Toulmin model and to observe their argumentation quality throughout the process. The study was based on qualitative research approach and the teaching experiment was applied. The participants consisted of six pre-service mathematics teachers. During the study, model eliciting activities were applied to the pre-service teachers in four separate sessions and their argumentation quality was determined by analyzing their discussions and the models they produced during these activities according to the components of the Toulmin Model. The Argumentation Quality Assessment Rubric created by Cho and Jonassen (2002) and adapted into Turkish by Güç and Kuleyin (2021) was used to determine the argumentation quality. The data of the study were collected through written application, observation, and individual interview. Video recordings, audio recordings, worksheets and the researcher's observation notes were analyzedand the change in the argumentation quality of the pre-service teachers was observed. Thanks to the teaching experiment, group work was increased in the process of model eliciting activities According to the AQAR scores, an improvement was observed in the argumentation quality of pre-service teachers in one group. In the other group, based on the data obtained from the individual interviews, it can be said that there is an improvement in the quality of argumentation of pre-service teachers.
