Determination of pre-service teachers' views on the perceptions of lifelong learning and history consciousness through historical films

The aim of the study is to determine the student teachers' perceptions of lifelong learning with historical series / films and their views on the history consciousness formed during this process. In this study, a mixed method which includes both quantitative and qualitative research methods was used. A descriptive design model was applied from the mixed method design and the quantitative dimension of the research was used in the survey model and in the qualitative dimension the case study model was used. The sample of the study consisted of 585 pre-service teachers in five different departments in the Faculty of Education of Erzincan Binali Yıldırım University during the academic year 2017-2018. As a quantitative data collection tool, the Life Information Perception Scale and Personal Information Form developed by Ünal and Kalçık (2017), and the semi-structured interview form consisting of 10 questions prepared by the researcher and a drilling question were used as qualitative data collection tools. The form was applied to 10 pre-service teachers determined by criterion sampling technique. Quantitative data were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 program, and qualitative data were analyzed by content analysis method. In the study, the data obtained by the Historical Sequences with Perceptions of Lifelong Learning Scale were analyzed and interpreted with historical information, learning to learn, historical thinking and history consciousness. In this context, gender, liking history lesson, liking to watch historical series / films, and frequency of watching historical series / films were found to be effective on the results. According to the results of the study, significant differences were found in the lifelong learning processes of pre-service teachers / trainees in favor of the ones who liked the history teacher, the ones who liked the history lesson, the ones who watched the historical series / films and the viewers once a week. Also, it as revealed that pre-service teachers mostly watched the movie of "Fetih 1453" and the movie series of "Diriliş Ertuğrul". According to the results of the interview, student teachers believe that the historical series / films are effective in forming the consciousness of history.
