Investigation of teacher competencies and student success in terms of variable variables

Evolving scientific and technological discoveries make it necessary for people to develop themselves and their competencies. Science and technology is in the field of education as science. Teachers, one of the basic factor of education, have an important influence in enhancing student performance in science. In this context, it is important to examine teacher competencies and student achievement in relation to each other. The aim of this research is to reveal teacher competence levels using the data obtained from the OHIO Teacher Competency Scale and to explain how the student influences change in science achievement. In this study, the teacher competence of 118 science teachers working in 65 schools determined by the maximum diversity method was measured and the science achievement scores of 4325 middle school 8th grade students were followed for one year in the school. In the analysis of the data obtained from the research, the relations between the students' science achievement and the data obtained from the scales used in the study were determined. According to the findings, teacher competence explaining the success of students between teacher competencies and science achievements is explained. As a result of the research, researcher proposals were made on the basis of characteristics that explain student achievement and teacher competencies in the data obtained from the research.
