Abstract (EN)
Aim: The main aim of the study was to determine whether the mixture of octenidine dihydrochloride and sodium hypochlorite has any effect on the tissue-dissolving properties of sodium hypochlorite, either increasing or decreasing its effectiveness at different temperatures and different concentration ratios. Methods: Commercially slaughtered bovine muscle tissue was used as an organic tissue sample. All samples were kept under the same storage conditions and standardized to similar thickness and weight. The initial weights of the samples were measured on a precision balance. The samples were randomly divided into 18 groups (12 experimental and 6 control groups). The temperature of the solutions was fixed at 25°C (room temperature) and 37°C (oral temperature). The prepared solutions were renewed at 10 minutes and 20 minutes and this process was repeated for 30 minutes for each solution. At the end of each solution change and 30 minutes, the tissue samples kept in the solution were removed from the bottles with the help of a presel, the tissue residues were washed with distilled water, dried and re-measured on a precision balance. The weight loss of the tissue samples was calculated as a percentage using the initial and final weight measurements. Results: Although the amount of tissue solubilization decreased unit-wise as the amount of NaOCl in the solutions decreased, it was observed that there was no statistically significant difference in tissue solubilization between the 90:10 NaOCl-OCT, 70:30 NaOCl-OCT, 50:50 NaOCl-OCT, 90:10 NaOCl-distilled water, 70:30 NaOCl-distilled water and pure NaOCl (positive control) groups. For 50:50 NaOCl-distilled water, pure OCT (negative control) and pure distilled water (negative control) groups, although there was no statistically significant difference between them in terms of tissue solubility, it was determined that the 50:50 NaOCl-distilled water group containing NaOCl dissolved more tissue than the negative control groups. In terms of OCT and distilled water groups, the difference was only between 50:50 NaOCl-OCT and 50:50 NaOCl-distilled water groups. The 50:50 NaOCl-OCT group dissolved more tissue than the 50:50 NaOCl-distilled water group although there was no statistically significant difference. 90:10 NaOCl-OCT group at all times, 50:50 NaOCl-OCT group and 70:30 NaOCl-distilled water group at T20 and T30 times, 50:50 NaOCl-distilled water group at T20 time showed statistically significantly more tissue dissolution at 37°C than 25°C. In the other NaOCl-containing test groups and their measurement times, although more tissue loss was observed at 37°C than at 25°C, no statistically significant difference was observed. Conclusions: In the light of the findings of this study, it may be recommended to use octenidine dihydrochloride instead of distilled water or saline to dilute NaOCl solution. We think that OCT potentializes the effects of NaOCl in terms of tissue solubility and may be a promising agent, but it should be supported by new studies.
