Preschool story book illustration to examine the suitability of the graphic desing principles

This research, entitled ?An Assesment of the Preschool Story Books Illustrations in Accordance with Graphic Design Principles?, explores the illustrations in copyrighted material published between 2005 and 2009.The universe of the research consists of preschool storybooks published between 2005 and 2009. In accordance with the topic of research and in relation with the resources of the researcher, one copy of each 19 storybooks, which are used for the age group 5 and 6 and published by different publishers set the sample of the research.In this research, one of the qualitative research methods, document review method had been used. An assesment scale was prepared in order to evaluate the pictures of the books for preschool children. Having received the opinion of experts in the field, validity and reliability of the data collection tools has been maintained. In accordance to three domain experts? consensus, invidual documents have been created for each 19 pre-school storybooks. These documents were used for interpretation of data.Quantitative data on the 19 children books with illustrations have been attained on the basis of the assesment form, which contains 19 criteria. The research has been carried on by a researcher and three domain experts. For each criterion, each expert had been requested to score the book illustrations between 1 and 5. The experts? point average for each limning which is examined with 19 criteria, obtains the picture scores.The result has been reached by the graphic tables of the finding from the assesment scale and analysing them by the researcher.To conclude, it has been detected that some deficiencies with respect to art principles and the component practice of the illustrations in accordance with the assesment scale.The illustrations of the children?s books should be drawn with aesthetic precision, artistic values and the artists? knowledge of the features for each age group have been found as the most important points when the researched books are examined.
