Preschool teachers' opinions relating to illustrated children's book

In this research, it was aimed to reveal the opinions of preschool teachers about the children's picture books and to submit proposals in the light of these opinions. This research is qualitative research and semi-structured interview technique was applied. The study group was constituted of 20 preschool teachers working in private preschools in the province of Gaziantep in the academic year of 2014-2015. As the data collection tool of the research a semi-structured interview form consisting of 9 questions was applied. The data obtained by the interview forms of preschool teachers were evaluated using the content analysis method. As a result of the analyses, some significant results about the activities the teachers have made with books, children's and teachers' book preferences and classroom libraries has been deduced. According to the results of the research; most of the teachers; prefer to use picture books, do not have a classroom library and the vast majority of them do not prefer authors and publishing houses when choosing children books. In addition, preschool teachers prefer to use questioning activities during the class. It has also been observed that children have the same opinions with teachers while choosing books; they both prefer children's books.
