Examination of the relationship between the emotional abuse levels and the self-respects of school psychological counselors in romantic relationships

Abuse in romantic relationships is, in the most general sense, the power and control of couples who are in emotional togetherness against each other through physical, psychological and sexual pressure. Various problems experienced in romantic relationships affect the self-esteem levels of individuals. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between emotional abuse levels in romantic relationships of school counselors and their self-esteem. In the research, relational screening model was used to examine the relationship between emotional abuse levels in romantic relationships of school counselors and their self-esteem. The research was prepared in a quantitative research design. The study group consists of 204 school counselors, 121 women and 83 men, aged between 25-55 (mean: 35.9± 6.9) working in Adana Province. Personal Information Form, Multidimensional Emotional Abuse Scale and Two-Dimensional Self-Esteem Scale prepared by the researcher were used to collect the data of the study. Data were collected through relevant online resources. The data obtained within the scope of the research were analyzed using the SPSS 22.0 package program. A moderate statistical relationship was found between the Emotional Abuse Scale subscales and the variable of self-love. A moderate statistical relationship was found between emotional abuse subscales and psychological help variables and self-efficacy scores. A moderate statistical relationship was found between the emotional abuse subscales and the variables of having a psychiatric diagnosis and self-efficacy scores. According to the findings obtained as a result of the study, it was determined that exposure to emotional abuse and practice were significant predictors of self-love. It has been determined that the variables of being exposed to emotional abuse and application, and receiving psychological help are a significant predictor of self-efficacy. It was determined that the variables of practice, humiliation, and humiliation were a significant predictor of self-esteem.
