Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between motivation, self- confidence levels and instant, trait anxiety of secondary education students. The other purpose of this study is to investigate the relationships between instant, trait anxiety and self-confidence and motivation levels and some demographical variables (gender, type of high school, sports branch, sports branch and sports category). In research, survey model is used from quantitative research designs which is often used within descriptive research method. Population of this study consisted of students who study at high school in Adıyaman city center participated in inter high-school sports competitions on 2015-2016 education season. Sample of this study consisted of 856 athletes. 61% of these athletes were male (522) and 39% were female (334). In data collection personal data form, Instant and Trait Anxiety Inventory which was developed by Spielberger et al (1970) and adopted to Turkish by Le Compte and Necla Oner (1983), and Motivation in Sports Scale which was developed by Pelletier et al. (1995) and adopted Turkish by Kazak (2004) and Self-confidence Scale developed by Akın (2007) were used. SPSS 21.00 package programme was used in the analysis of research data. Multiple regression analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, independent t test and one way variance analysis were used in quantitative phase of research. According to the findings obtained from research, it was determined that there was negative relationship between self-confidence and motivation, and instant-trait anxiety sub-dimensions. While a significant difference is seen between gender variable in inner self-confidence dimension and trait anxiety level, there were also significant differences between motivation sub-dimensions of type of high school and sports branch sub-dimensions and self-confidence sub-dimension of independent variables In addition it was determined that secondary education students significantly predicted self-esteem, motivation, instant-trait anxiety. From this point of view, students are suggested to join sports competitions in order to have some Factors which will be positively effective for their instant-trait, self-confidence and motivation
