The relation between the school administrators' paternalistic leadership behaviours and teachers' organizational citizenship behaviours

In this study, it was aimed to determine the relationship between school administrators' paternalistic leadership behaviors and teachers' organizational citizenship behaviors. Accordingly, in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, 417 teachers working in official Primary, Secondary, Imam Hatip Secondary, Anadolu High School, Vocational High School, Imam Hatip High School and Science High School in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year were reached and data were collected. The data were collected with the Paternalistic Leadership Scale developed by Saylık and Aydın (2020) and the Organizational Citizenship Scale adapted into Turkish by Basın and Şeşen (2006). The research was designed in survey model. In the study, descriptive statistics, t-test for comparisons and one-way analysis of variance were used to determine the views of school administrators on paternalistic leadership behaviors and teachers' organizational citizenship behaviors. Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient was used to determine the relationship between school administrators' paternalistic leadership behaviors and teachers' organizational citizenship behaviors. As a result of the research, it was determined that school administrators exhibit paternalistic leadership behavior at the level of "Sometimes" according to teachers' perceptions. The variables of the type of school, professional seniority and the number of students and teachers in the school statistically and significantly differentiate teachers' views on paternalistic leadership. Teachers participated in the dimensions of organizational citizenship at the levels of courtesy "Always", civic virtue "Most of the time", altruism "Most of the time", conscientiousness "Sometimes" and chivalry "Sometimes". There is a moderate, positive and significant relationship between paternalistic leadership family atmosphere and philanthropy sub-dimensions and organizational citizenship behavior's altruism sub-dimension.
