Abstract (EN)

The aim of this thesis is to analyze the effects of a possible dam failure under different scenarios of overtopping and piping dam failure types and to create flood propagation maps downstream of the densely populated Ömerli Dam. Ömerli Dam is a clay core earthfill dam. The Hydrological Engineering Center-River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) was used to develop a dam failure model. Dam failure scenarios were analyzed in terms of "Breach Formation Time" for overtopping cases and "Initial Piping Elevation" and "Breach Formation Time" for piping type dam breach. In this context, flood peak depth (Hp), peak flow (Qp), peak velocity (vp) outputs were discussed. Depth - time, velocity - time and flow - time graphs obtained from a point close to the downstream of Ömerli Dam and from a location very close to the location where the stream flows into the sea were obtained and discussed. A discussion was also made in terms of the areal values of the flood inundation areas obtained as a result of the scenarios created.
