Abstract (EN)

The present study was aimed at investigating the effect of organizational culture on nurses' attitudes toward productivity This descriptive study was performed in four hospitals in Istanbul, a province in northwestern Turkey, between January 2018 and April 2018. The study sample included 352 nurses who had been working at their institutions for at least six months and agreed to participate in the study. The study data were collected using the "Individual Descriptive Characteristics Form","Denison Organizational Culture Scale" and "Scale of Attitudes of Nurses towards Productivity". All of the data obtained in the study were analyzed in the SPSS 24.0 statistical package program. In the analysis of the study data, descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, One Way ANOVA, Tukey HSD and Pearson Correlation test were used. The attitudes displayed towards productivity by the nurses who participated in the study were close to the moderate level (48.97 ± 11.16). While they obtained the highest mean score from the "occupational adherence" subscale, they obtained the lowest mean score from the "working conditions" subscale. It was determined that the participating nurses organizational culture level was moderate (3.19 ± .58). While they obtained the highest mean score from the "involvement" subscale (3.30 ± .64), they obtained the lowest mean score from the "consistency" subscale (3.10 ± .66). It was determined that the participating nurses' attitudes towards productivity were affected by such variables as age, professional experience, type of the hospital worked in, unit worked in, position in the unit, way of working, choosing the profession and unit worked in by his/her own preference, being satisfied with working in the institution and salary, and perceived workload. It was determined that of the sociodemographic characteristics, gender and marital status did not affect the participating nurses' attitudes towards productivity. There was a positive relationship between the mean scores obtained from the "Denison Organizational Culture Scale" and "Scale of Attitudes of Nurses towards Productivity" (r = 0.61; p <0.001). In conclusion, it was observed that the organizational culture of the institution the nurses worked in positively affected their attitudes towards productivity. In order to improve nurses' attitudes towards productivity, it is recommended that managers should develop strategies to improve the organizational culture by taking into account the sociodemographic and professional characteristics.
