Abstract (EN)
During the reign of Second Mahmut, Ottoman Army proliferate after the termination of janissary foundation. This process about the difference on the military organization of Ottoman Empire affected barracks that Ottoman Army nestle and instruct; likewise other structures. Orhaniye Barracks; which is in the capital and the command center of Ottoman Army, İstanbul; have tried to be examined in terms of art history. As one of the parts of Ottoman Empire's military architecture, barracks analyzed after arranging under chapters such; early age barracks, 18c. barracks and 19c. barracks. The requirements of developing Ottoman Army had also overwhelmed or developed the variety of the embodied structures under military barracks. Barracks instantly had become the most significant military structures of Ottoman Army; especially barracks of Istanbul, are the most remarkable ones under this contexture. In order to acquaint the other barracks in İstanbul, this study tried to create a new vision about Ottoman Barracks of İstanbul. In this course, Orhaniye Barracks and the embodied structures under Orhaniye Barracks are scrutinized in terms of art history. In the light of the information and documents compiled from: archives of governmental bodies, libraries, personal collections, and researches in the province, an assessment become possible in terms of art history. Genuine plans, functional differences upon elevation methods or interferences to harmonize evolution with requirements of former periods have also been considered, during the construction phase of this course. Orhaniye Barracks and its facilities existence as a cultural fortune has taken into consideration while analyzing it, under the scope of art history.
