Abstract (EN)

Origanum sipyleum L. (Lamiaceae) endemic to the Turkey collected from 9different populations were examined by using 10 random amplified polymorphicDNA (RAPD) markers and 78 loci out of 84 loci showed polymorphisms. Theratio of polymorphic loci was 92.86%. This is high levels of genetic variation.Mean value of expected heterozygosity (0.23), mean value of observedheterozygosity (0.31), mean allele frequencies for all populations and loci (1.92),and effective allele frequencies were 1.53. It was found that null allele frequencieswas smaller than mean allele frequencies to have. The populations close to eachother geographically had been observed low into genetic variability. Adendrogram of genetic relationship had divided 3 major clusters and each one ofthem had represented one of three phytogeographical regions of Turkey. As a result of this study, it was determined that RAPD thecniques can be usedsuccesfully in identifying genetic variations amongst populations of Origanumsipyleum.2006, 178 pagesKey Words: Origanum sipyleum L., Endemic species, RAPD , Genetic variationii
