A study of level of science teachers using instructional technologies in high schools

In this study, Physics, Chemistry and Biology teachers? levels of using technologies in teaching-learning processes related to their profession in today?s world, in which scientific and technological developments are of great importance, have been researched.The research was conducted during 2008-2009 educational year?s second term on 117 teachers of Science in 17 secondary and high schools in the center of Diyarbakır province through using survey. The data of the research was obtained through using ?the questionnaire of level of using educational technologies?, which is particularly used for teacher participants. The survey contains 40 questions, consisting of two chapters, one of which is on personal information and the other on the level of using teaching technologies. In the analysis of the research results SPSS program was used. Firstly, the frequency and the percentage rate of the responses given by all the teachers within the scope of the research were determined. Whether there were differences in using teaching technologies in terms of teachers? gender, age, length of service, level of education and teaching subject was studied by using Chi-square test and those found meaningful were examined through cross-tables.In conclusion, that the participant teachers do not use teaching technologies in an expected degree in teaching-learning process has been determined. Some of the reasons for this are as follows: the inadequacy of technological infrastructure in schools, the preference habit of some of the teachers for traditional teaching methods and approaches, the reluctance of some teachers to technological innovations and lack of required knowledge on teaching technologies.Key words: Teaching Technologies, Science Education, teacher, using technology
