Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to determine the anxiety level of the fifth grade students of secondary school towards the science class and to examine whether they show a meaningful difference according to various independent variables (the gender of teacher, the gender of student, the type of school, educational level of the family, grade of report card). The results of the survey were taken on 1014 fifth grade students from a private school and 4 public schools which are randomly determined in the four central districts of Diyarbakır province; Bağlar, Yenişehir, Sur and Kayapınar in 2014-2015 academic year. A total of 1014 students, 522 (51.5%) male and 492 (48.5%) female, participated in the research. Science and Technology Lesson Anxiety Scale and Demographic Information Form were used as data collection tools. The data of the study were analyzed using the SPSS 20.0 package program. The research findings were interpreted according to a significance level of 0.05. In this study, the relational screening model was used because it was aimed to describe the anxiety scores of the 5th grade students of the secondary school in terms of various variables. Percentage, arithmetic mean, standard deviation, one way variance and independent sample t-Test were used in the analysis of the data acquired, the effect value (eta-squared) was calculated to determine the magnitude of the difference in case of a significant difference in the results of the analyzes. VII According to research findings; when the mean and standard deviation values of the anxiety points of the 5th grade students of the middle school for science lesson are examined, anxiety scores were found to be low (1.00-1.79). In Independent Sample t-Test Results Regarding Anxiety Scores towards Science Course by student gender, which is one of the independent variables of the research; it has been seen that there is no significant difference (p> .05) between students' anxiety scores and their gender in science. In Independent Sample t-Test Results Regarding Students' Anxiety Scores for science teaching according to teacher gender; that has been detected that the anxiety point average of the students whose teacher is a woman (x 1.7384) is higher than those whose teacher is a man. (x 1.4830) Another sub-problem of the study is that there is no significant difference between the anxiety scores of Science Classes of the students of the official middle school and those of the 5th grade students of the private middle school. When we look at the results of the one-way variance on the anxiety scores of the students according to the educational level of the family, there was no meaningful difference between the anxiety points of the students according to their education level of the family. However; the higher the education level of the family, the lower the averages of anxiety scores of the students (x 1.6260); it can be said that when the education level of the family is lowered, the average of anxiety points of the students increases (x 1.8042). Finally, according to the science class notes that is another sub-problem of the research, it has been seen that students‟ anxiety scores became different significantly when examined the results of the anxiety scores related to the science classes. It has been determined that as the grade of the report increases, the anxiety decreases; as the grade of the report decreases, the anxiety increases and the effect size (eta-squared) was found as 0.69.
