Analysis of the social leadership competences of secondary school principals

ABSTRACT In this study, It was aimed to examine the level of social leadership competence of the official secondary school principals according to the opinions of principals, teachers and parents and to determine whether there is a significant difference according to the various variables. This research is a quantitative research that designed in descriptive survey model. The population of the study consists of parents, teachers and secondary school principals working in secondary schools in Bayraklı, Çiğli and Menemen districts of İzmir. The research sample is consist of 61 school principals working in official secondary schools in Bayraklı, Çiğli and Menemen districts and 206 teachers and 206 parents selected through easily accessible sample. The data required for the study were obtained from the applied scales. In the study, the 'Social Leadership Scale used by the standards document for school principals named' Standards for School Leaders translated to the Turkish by Güngör (2001), developed by Gümüşeli and Doğan (2006), published by the United States Interstate School Leaders License Consortium, was used. A total of 22 items were used in the scale, 5 items of which were information and 17 items of behavior. Validity and reliability studies of the scale were conducted; test - retest method was used. As a result of the analyzes, it was determined that both the principals, teachers and parents perceived the high level of social leadership levels of the middle school principals in terms of behavior and knowledge. Social leadership levels of secondary school principals, social leadership levels behavior sub-dimensions, social leadership levels knowledge sub-dimensions; It was found that the social leadership levels of middle school principals were perceived significantly higher than the teachers and parents by the principals, teachers and parents.
