Abstract (EN)
In creating a democratic and participatory society, it is very important for individuals to establish strong ties with the society they live in from an early age. One of the main aims of the education policies of developed countries is to raise awareness of individuals, starting from their immediate environment, towards national and then global problems, and to act consciously in solving these problems. In order to serve this purpose, it is very important to provide individuals with social participation skills within the scope of social studies course. The present research designed the development of social participation skills of middle school 5th grade students on the basis of the ADDIE instructional design model. In this context, the stages of the instructional design model, namely Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation, were followed. In line with the purpose of the study, it consists of five stages: first of all, on the basis of the ADDIE instructional design model, performing a needs analysis to determine the problems experienced in the process of developing social participation skills, then designing activities to improve social participation skills, developing and implementing the designed activities, and finally evaluating the whole process. The mixed method approach, in which qualitative and quantitative research methods are used together, was preferred in the research. In the research, a case study was conducted during the analysis and evaluation stages; The design, development and implementation phases were designed as activity-based and problem-centered instructional design models. The sample group of the research consists of social studies teachers and secondary school 5th grade students in Kocaeli Province Gölcük District. In the analysis phase, with 48 social studies teachers and 537 secondary school 5th grade students in the 2020-2021 academic year; In the other stages, 22 fifth grade students studying at a public secondary school were studied in the fall semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Within the scope of the research, scale, semi-structured interview forms, preliminary information questionnaire, social participation skill test, student activity evaluation form and rubric were used as data collection tools. SPSS 22.0 statistical program was used in the analysis of quantitative data and MAXQDA 20 program was used in the analysis of qualitative data. According to the results obtained from the research, it was determined that the awareness of the 5th grade students in secondary school increased as a result of the activities carried out for social participation skills, on the basis of the ADDIE instructional design model, they became conscious of social problems, and their perspectives towards non-governmental organizations changed positively. In addition, it was concluded that there was a significant difference in the pretest-posttest scores of the students from the social participation skill tests.
