Investigation of cyber bullying and victimization in secondary school students in terms of internet family style and other variables

Abstract (EN)
In this study, cyber bullying and cyber victim of the secondary school students in Bolu were investigated according to their internet family style and several variables.The sampling participants of the research are made of a total of 815 students who are studying in5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades at several secondary schools in provincial town of Bolu. 2 different scales were used in the study. This scales are cyber bully/victim scale and internet family style scale. Datas were analysed by using SPSS 23 programme. Since the data have been found out non-parametrically Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests have been applied. 0.5 was accepted as the level of significance analysed datas. 412 (50.5 % ) of the students girls and 403 ( 49.4 % ) of the students are boys in this resarch. According to the result of this research, male students make cyber bullying more than female students. In addition to this, male students are exposed to cyber bullying more than female students. It is observed that there is no significant difference between educational background of parents, the students grades, where they acces the internet and the level of their cyber bullying. 246 (30 %) of the students have neglectful parenting style, 307 (37%) of them have permissive family style, 14 ( 1.7 %) of them have authoritarian family style and 251 (30%) of them democratic family style. Who the level of being exposed to have permissive family style is higher than the level of being exposed to cyber bullying of the student who have democratic family. Finally it is found out that the students who have permissive family style make cyber bullying more than the students who have democratic and neglectful family style.
