Investigation of secondary school students' family sense of coherence, burnout, life satisfaction and exam anxiety

The aim of this study is to investigate the family cohesion, burnout, life satisfaction, and test anxiety of students attending Kırşehir Central secondary schools based on sociodemographic characteristics. The study population consists of all 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students attending Kırşehir Central secondary schools during the 2022- 2023 academic year. The study used the "Family Sense of Coherence," "Burnout," "Life Satisfaction," and "Test Anxiety" scales as data collection tools. Male students reported higher levels of depersonalization, while female students reported significantly higher levels of test anxiety. The study found a significant difference between the mean scores for family sense of coherence based on grade, perceived family economic status, and life- affecting events in the last two months. There were significant differences between the mean scores for burnout based on grade. There were no significant differences between the mean scores for life satisfaction based on gender, number of siblings, mother's employment status, father's education status, taking private lessons, the number of private lessons, or living with other people at home. There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores for test anxiety based on gender, grade, parent's education status, and life-affecting events in the last two months. Females had significantly higher test anxiety than males. 5th grade students had the highest sense of family sense of coherence, competence, and life satisfaction, while their burnout was the lowest. As perceived family economic status increased, so did the sense of family sense of coherence and life satisfaction.
